Today’s topic is the aspect described by Lumina Learning as ‘inspiration driven’ which is present in someone who can be flexible and let things emerge. This energy allows people to let the work pace develop naturally until the final objective becomes clear. They like to let the direction emerge from an evolving situation and are known to be easy going and able to work loosely with processes. They trust their gut instinct to make quick choices, and they can take risks by bending the rules or traditions in order to achieve something unique. The key words to describe the qualities of this aspect are adaptable, flexible and spontaneous.

However, when the inspiration driven aspect of one’s personality is in over extension, the qualities will reveal their shadow sides.

When the inspiration driven energy is overextended the aspect can be show up as being too adaptable, so much so that the person may even lose sight of their own goals. If this is you, you may become too lose with deadlines for yourself and others. Also, there could be the tendency to be to act too quickly without thinking things through or end up doing things at the last minute. Sometimes the lack of planning can even cause the overextended person to miss deadlines.

As a leader, you have got to keep your eyes and ears open to be able to spot these signs and then intervene. If you are over extended, be honest with yourself and take a good hard look at how your energy is affecting, may be even debilitating your workforce.

If you spot it in a direct report you have got to talk to this person and together, figure out what is causing the over extension and what can be done to resolve it. In the state of over extension the ability to deliver results and contribute to the success of organizational goals will naturally be extremely limited.
